Should You Install Under Cabinet Lighting in Your Kitchen?

Giving your home the lighting that it needs is crucial. This is especially true in the kitchen where meals are prepared. Most kitchens have plenty of counter area but not much light to really brighten them. Throw in the fact that you need to stand in certain areas to make sure the light illuminates whatever it is you’re doing and it gets worse. In this article I’ll talk about installing under cabinet lighting in your kitchen or more specifically installing the EShine Lighting Kit in your home.

Should You Install Under Cabinet Lighting in Your Kitchen?

One of the ways you can really shed some light on your counter tops is by installing under cabinet lights. They are installed directly under your current cabinets and out of the way. Actually, many times the lights are completely out of sight. Getting this lighting installed in your home is usually a straight forward process and doesn’t really require much special skill. In fact, most people can install the under counter lighting in less than a day. Many home improvement contractors or electricians may charge outrageous amounts for installing the lights.

Different Models of Under Counter Lights

There are many different models of under counter lights now available. My particular preference is the Eshine Lighing Kit that is available. They have many different models available with complete installation instructions included. Some of the models include a motion activated light so you don’t need to flip a switch but rather just wave your hand underneath it. Whatever model you choose however make sure it has LED lights in it. This will be more energy efficient than older standard models of under counter lights.

To Get Started Installing Your Kitchen Lighting

You’ll need to take a tape measure and determine the size lighting you’ll need for your application. For instance, if you have a cabinet that is 48 inches long you’ll need a light that covers almost that distance or a few lights that will combine to measure 44 inches or so. Giving a few inches on each end of the fixture.

There are several ways to install the under counter lighting. The first is by using double adhesive tape that comes with the kit. You simply apply the tape where you wish the lights to go and then stick the lights into place. Be aware that the electrical outlet will be needed to plug the light in unless you plan on hard wiring the unit it. Most of the lighting kits available from EShine are plug in type of fixtures and are easily installed. In order to get an under counter light hard wired you’ll likely need to hire an electrician to assist you.

I’ve included a video below of the actual unboxing of an under cabinet lighting package from EShine. It should give you a better idea of just what you’re getting.

When you’re ready to add some light to your home’s kitchen then make sure you start at your kitchen lighting and start being able to see the magnificent dishes you’re creating there.
